Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join?
If you are reading this in April to September, and are mainly interested in rowing only in a crew, then you are best off coming to men's/women's practise. This normally will be on Wednesdays/Thursdays at 6:30 pm. If you are reading this in October to March, you are welcome to our indoor training. Have a look at the training page or get in touch with us.
What time does training take place?
This varies from squad to squad. Except the training sessions on weekday evenings (6:30pm) but some crews will also go out early on weekday mornings.
How much training is there?
How long is a piece of string? The commitment ranges from novices who might do 1-2 sessions per week, to the experienced crews who will be doing 5-7 sessions per week. No session is compulsory until you are in a fixed crew with pre-arranged outing times.
I would like to try coxing. How do I start?
I have coxed before. How do I join as a cox?
Good for you! UARS, like all clubs, always needs more coxes.
Do you take complete beginners?
Yes, and we will provide an intensive course for beginners in May and September. More information can soon be found on the website.
If you have experience in rowing, then you may be able to join our novice squad before September. Please contact the captain roddchef@uars.se explaining your rowing background and we'll be in touch with more information.
Do you take juniors?
Yes, but currently we do not have any juniors. Please email our captain roddchef@uars.se
What about social rowing?
People can and do row in social crews at UARS. There are also thriving veteran sections for both men and women. We recommend our Drop-in training (Wednesday and Thursday) that is open for everyone- novices to experienced rowers, students to veterans.
How many people are there in the club?
Currently there are well over 50 people training at the club regularly; there are roughly equal numbers of men and women. Overall the club has around 100 members.
What equipment does the Club have?
The Club has a number of boats in the fleet. As a result of considerable investment, some of these are high quality racing boats (i.e. Empacher and similar).
In 2008 we proudly opened a new boat house which has been built by members during summer 2008. At our club house, which is located 500m from the boathouse we have 6 Concept 2 Model C ergometers, 2 bikes and weights.
How much does membership cost?
Membership fees are paid in full for a year. Please send an email to sekretarare@uars.se for more information.
How do I buy UARS kit?
A range of UARS branded rowing kit is available. Contact the board for information.
Do you run training camps?
Yes. Every year all members are invited to attend the Club training camp. Traditionally this has been held in Siljansnäs, in Dalarna the last week in July. In recent years, smaller camps have also been organised. The last years we have been to Zurich, Berlin and Schweinfurt.
